Personally, Debian servers, *buntu Desktops.

I found Debian before I did *buntu, which probably explains that somewhat - there is no major reason, to my knowledge, why I'd switch servers from Debian to *buntu, but there is for desktops.

Support is largely cross-compatible (especially once you take the desktop aspects [GUI, hibernation, Wifi etc.] out of it), and everything else is near-identical (tools. fs layouts, apt, even most defaults), except for the updates. Debian-Stable has more stable updates than the *buntu desktops. I've not used a *buntu server edition against which I can compare.
