SATA hdd not detected by ubuntu possible bug

there is a bug with the ubuntu 8.04 lts desktop edition when using a pentium 4    3.0 Ghz processor with hyper threading technology, 512mb ram, 120 gb hdd (sata), 128mb ati graphics card, 8x dvd +/- rw drive.

i cannot get the standord install disk to recognise the SATA drive is there a patch for this so i can fix the problem the issue arrisies in install stage 4 /7 this means that it cant or wont recognise my disk so cant prepair a partition...
