Using old kernel on hardy

Hi,
Currently I'm using Gutsy since suspend didn't work correctly in my
system in Hardy (the problem was the change from acpi scripts to
pm-utils). I'm pretty sure the problem will be solved eventually though.
My question is if I could upgrade to Hardy but keep the current kernel
and boot from it instead of the new one. I cannot tell for sure but last
time I tried to upgrade suspend/resume worked with the old kernel.
Using acpi o pm-utils scripts depends on the kernel, right?
Thanks in advance.
