Well, it seems to be a problem with the mirror, I would select another
mirror and try again. Another idea:

> Get:16 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Sources [338kB]

This looks as if you have the sources enabled. If you don't need them, you
could disable it in /etc/apt/sources.list. Just put a "#" in front of
every line that begins with "deb-src".
