Certainly. I'm still using the last gutsy kernel with hardy, because
wireless isn't working on my upgraded system (works fine with a fresh
install), and I haven't figured out why.

acpi scripts work in either case. pm-utils seems to work with either
kernel, too, but afaict there are _no_ configuration tools (well, there
aren't for acpi, either) and I had some hassles getting pm to properly
resume. Now it does, but for the life of me I can't remember (or find) the
config file I changed...
