I don't have an Itanium system to hand, however the provides section of
glibc on i386 specifically says that it provides the things you require
(as in it's advertising itself as backwards-compatible). Do you get
similar results when running "yum provides <something>" on Itanium?

- It's interesting that I don't have anything that provides
libc.so.6.1(GLIBC_2.2) and libc.so.6 is the closest I could get. It's
likely that is down to differences between ia64 and i386 I guess.

I don't recommend you build and install your own glibc, because it
wouldn't fall in the bounds of "supported" either by HP or Red Hat. Try
running "yum localinstall HPOvXpl-6.00.060-1.ia64.rpm"

I suggest giving HP Support a tug. They built the RPM and if it's
anything like the pile of rubbish that goes into their Proliant Support
Pack RPMS, they've probably done something exceedingly stupid.
