Not sure if I missed the actual cause of the problem here but if you
install using the installation number for desktop+workstation you
should get subscribed to the workstation channel so long as you don't
use an activation key when registering. Alternatively you could set
the channel subscriptions you desire in an activation key and use that
when registering.
