Do you happen to know if there's intelligence built in to separate
32-bit systems from 64-bit systems and subscribe to those appropriate
child channels; or does one need a separate activation key for each
architecture?

Navigate to the main page for a key (systems->activation keys and find
your key) and you should see tabs for Details | Child Channels |
Groups | Activated Systems. Click on Child Channels and add whichever
channels you want automatic subscriptions to.
