Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I'll go ahead anyway :) I'm having a WAN link over a satellite connection with Linux servers on both ends, with one end performing NAT. I'm by no means an expert, but I guess this is what we would call a high bandwidth delay product link. AFAIK, such kind of links require some optimizations (ACK prioritization ?)

http://www.psc.edu/networking/projects/tcptune/ mentions Linux is now fully auto-tuning network buffer sizes! Does this auto-tuning work, when the Linux server is NAT'ing other machines, and is not the original source of packets?!
I have no idea how to best tackle this, so any guidance/pointers are most welcome.
Also, is it worth it to try and compress network packets ? The previous admin was using
http://www.winton.org.uk/zebedee/ for link compression, but I'm not so sure this is the best route.
