I expect that RH hasn't decided whether to ship PHP 5.2, and if PHP 5.3
or something newer appears before RHEL6 it likely will not.

Depending on what your needs are, you might contemplate a (virtual)
Fedora system running PHP 5.2 (looks likely to be 5.2.5 in Fedora 9).
