The hardware is fairly new. The insides were slightly dusty when I
opened it us this afternoon to check, but not bad enough to cause a
problem. Besides, Fedora 8 ran smoothly on this hardware.

I am not totally sure where the problem lies. I feel it's not the
hardware but I'll check the voltages and fan speeds anyway.
