Yes, assuming it was released and got to the mirror before the kernel
update which breaks things.

Sorry, that is not an argument - that people do not update at late
evening doesn't mean the problem is not there. Perhaps I was the only
one who got bitten - consider yourself lucky.

Yes, that is true, except of one case - if the source package was
installed properly (with kernel-devel), then the machine would reboot,
build a new driver and continue as usual. However, I am not pushing for
this solution since there is a policy of binary dkms drivers for stable
release - better fix the process so that the kernel cannot be upgraded
without upgrading all the binary drivers too.
