Thanks for responding. The two directories aren't triggered by kde3 apps. I made sure of that much.

My poking and prodding today seems to have given me a crude form of session management. For example, I save a session with konsole on desktop 3, two open tabs, each at a different working directory. When I log back into kde4 I get konsole on desktop 3 but only one tab and the working directory isn't remembered.

Or is there some fundamental change in konsole4 that I'm missing? Lord knows I'm have a very hard time wrapping my head around some of kde4's new features. It took me forever to discover how to move the konsole Tab Bar from bottom to top. <grumble>And I still don't understand why the hell they replaced a simple right-click>Tab Bar with MenuBar>Settings>Edit Profile>Tabs.</grumble>
