In Xorg.0.log , I note:
(EE) RADEONHD(0): The fglrx kernel module is loaded. This can have obvious
or subtle side effects. See radeonhd(4) for details.
can you please unload fglrx and try again? If it still fails, do you
remember what was the last version of radeonhd with which it worked?
