Back You may be able to do this without LVM (unless you really want to use LVM -- then, as you see, it can be a bit more interesting).
You stated that you can grow the LUN. You didn't mention the file system type, so I will assume ext3.
1) grow the LUN on the SAN 2) If needed, reboot the system so that it will really see the new size (though it won't appear just yet). This may be optional depending on what your SAN is. 3) umount /dev/sde1 4) resize2fs /dev/sde1 5) follow screen suggestions (usually an e2fsck) 6) mount /dev/dse1

I'll admit to not having done much with LVM and now I need to know it... I've got a 400GB disk (/dev/sde1) mounted on /foo. I want to double the volume size without creating a new volume and moving the existing data over. I can't just move some directories to the new volume - it has to be one big volume when I'm done. Any suggestions on how best to do this with LVM in RHEL 3? This is a SAN-based volume and it's possible that I can grab another 400GB on the same frame and grow the LUN if that makes it easier.
