How do I find out the cause for the hang?

How do I find out the cause for the hang?

You might want to just get rid of auditd altogether; we had some
issues (that appear to be not altogether uncommon) with random
crashing due to auditd.  Removal instructions:

http://www.eth0.us/auditd

That page is written specifically for cPanel users, but it applies to
anything.  We've got so far as to write a Cfengine rule that
automatically kills auditd on our RHEL boxes.
