I did ask this way back when RHEL4 came out because I was looking to  
play with the Oracle+RAC+Shared Firewire Disk testing setup  
documented on Oracle Metalib...

I can't find the support request but the gist of it was no. It might  
make a reappearance in RHEL5 but it was unlikely to make it back into  
the 2.6.9 kernel in RHEL4 because the necessary backported fixes to  
the ieee1394 code in that kernel version were a lot of work with a  
lot of dependencies on other things. I realise that's the least  
specific report I've ever give *cue vague handwaving* but it was so  
long ago I don't remember the details.
