  | | | SCSI not ejecting sense code ? | SCSI not ejecting sense code ? 2006-11-16 - By Bob Flynn (bobf)
Back Hi,
I have the following situation
OS
[sroot@(protected) log]# uname -a Linux mars.leop.s3group.com 2.4.21-47.0.1.EL #1 Fri Oct 13 18:04:55 EDT 2006 i68 6 i686 i386 GNU/Linux [sroot@(protected) log]# cat /etc/redhat-release Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon Update 8)
Problem,
While querying SCSI chain works fine.
Attempting to eject tapes from tape drives fails, ie
[sroot@(protected) log]# mt -f /dev/nst0 status SCSI 2 tape drive: File number=-1, block number=-1, partition=0. Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x42 (no translation). Soft error count since last status=0 General status bits on (1010000): ONLINE IM_REP_EN [sroot@(protected) log]# mt -f /dev/nst1 status SCSI 2 tape drive: File number=0, block number=1, partition=0. Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x42 (no translation). Soft error count since last status=0 General status bits on (1010000): ONLINE IM_REP_EN [sroot@(protected) log]# mt -f /dev/nst1 eject /dev/nst1: Input/output error [sroot@(protected) log]# mt -f /dev/nst0 eject /dev/nst0: Input/output error
So, looking at dmesg, I see st1: Error with sense data: Current st09:01: sense key Illegal Request Additional sense indicates Medium removal prevented st0: Error with sense data: Current st09:00: sense key Illegal Request Additional sense indicates Medium removal prevented
So my question is;
Has anyone come across this before. I have so far
1. Upgraded kernel 2. Changed SCSI cables 3. Verified it's the eject operation that is failing, I can label and write data correctly.
What I have left at this stage is to put in a temporary SCSI card and try this. In anyone had a more informed view I would appreciate it.
-Bob
