Flash Plugin Problem

Flash Plugin Problem

2007-07-23       - By Alan Bartlett

 Back
I'm running a pretty standard RHL9 with a 2.4.20-8 kernel that I've
recompiled to suit my hardware configuration.

I use the Mozilla Web Browser that came in the package - when interrogated
it states "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.2.1)".

Some websites I've been onto recently have wanted to use the Macromedia
Flash Player.  Being a cautious person, I went to:

www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

and downloaded the latest release in RPM format:

flash-plugin-9 (See http://gin-9.ora-code.com).0.48.0-release.i386.rpm

and installed it.

Here's the problem.  When I now go to a site the uses the Flash Player it
displays whatever the site requests then it terminates the web browser - as
if I had closed the browser.  I've also found that other sites now also
close the browser.  If I remove (rpm -e) the flash-plugin the problem goes
away.

Your comments and advice will be appreciated.

Alan.
