Subject: Qlogic failover with Hitachi 9960 2007-08-27 - By -not available-

Hi all
I've googled extensively for the past couple of days and have logged a service request with RH support but no joy.
We have a Hitachi 9960 on which 3 LUNs have been allocated to my server. My server running RHEL3u9 (x86_64), has two qla2460s and both see the LUNs. --- # grep \( /proc/scsi/qla2300/? /proc/scsi/qla2300/1:Total number of IOCBs (used/max) = (0/0) /proc/scsi/qla2300/1:Commands retried with dropped frame(s) = 0 /proc/scsi/qla2300/1:(Id:Lun) * - indicates lun is not registered with the OS. /proc/scsi/qla2300/1:( 0: 0): Total reqs 1, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2*, 0:0:81, /proc/scsi/qla2300/1:( 0: 7): Total reqs 211, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2, 0:0:81, /proc/scsi/qla2300/1:( 0: 8): Total reqs 214, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2, 0:0:81, /proc/scsi/qla2300/1:( 0:15): Total reqs 211, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2, 0:0:81, /proc/scsi/qla2300/2:Total number of IOCBs (used/max) = (0/0) /proc/scsi/qla2300/2:Commands retried with dropped frame(s) = 0 /proc/scsi/qla2300/2:(Id:Lun) * - indicates lun is not registered with the OS. /proc/scsi/qla2300/2:( 0: 0): Total reqs 1, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2*, 1:0:81, /proc/scsi/qla2300/2:( 0: 7): Total reqs 246, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2, 1:0:81, /proc/scsi/qla2300/2:( 0: 8): Total reqs 186, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2, 1:0:81, /proc/scsi/qla2300/2:( 0:15): Total reqs 189, Pending reqs 0, flags 0x2, 1:0:81, # grep -- -fo /proc/scsi/qla2300/? /proc/scsi/qla2300/1: Firmware version: 4.00.26, Driver version 7.07.06-fo /proc/scsi/qla2300/2: Firmware version: 4.00.26, Driver version 7.07.06-fo # sg_map | grep sd /dev/sg0 /dev/sda /dev/sg1 /dev/sdb /dev/sg2 /dev/sdc /dev/sg3 /dev/sdd /dev/sg4 /dev/sde /dev/sg5 /dev/sdf /dev/sg6 /dev/sdg /dev/sg7 /dev/sdh ---
My problem is I'm unsure how to refer to the LUNs. The LUNs are on: - /dev/sdb and /dev/sde - /dev/sdc and /dev/sdf - /dev/sdd and /dev/sdg I need to put all the LUNs in a VG. Do I put all the paths in the VG? How does failover/failback occur?
On another note, the CD drive (currently /dev/sdh) sometimes comes up as /dev/sdb and sometimes /dev/sde. How do I make it consistant? I figure I need to use devlabel but I'm not sure exactly what arguments to pass it.
TIA
