rsh problem

rsh problem

2003-12-16       - By Ivo Mencke

Hello,

I have a problem with rsh

Here is some output from nmap on both nodes (its the same on both)

Port State Service
23/tcp open telnet
111/tcp open sunrpc
513/tcp open login
514/tcp open shell

and here is the chkconfig

root]# chkconfig --list | grep rsh
rsh: on
root]#

xinetd is running fine.

root]# cat /etc/hosts.equiv
node1
node2
int-node1
int-node2

root]#

hosts.equiv is the same on both node1 and node2

the private interconnect nodenames (int-node1 and int-node2) are just a
crossover cable connection from node1 to node2, using different NIC 's
with different ip 's

I can ping and ssh no problem from each node to both ip 's/nodename 's on
the other node.

rsh and telnet are refused, however. telnetting port 514 on the other
node is also refused. There is no iptables running on either system.
node1 and node2 are connected via a switch on the same subnet and
int-node1 and int-node2 are connected via crossover cable. (no firewall)

Im sure its something obvious but i just cant see it!

as always, any help would be appreciated.

thanks

ivo.
