mpeg video playback shows left half of image only.

I 've been googling for days and haven 't found any clues to solve this problem. I appologize if this is the incorrect list for this topic, but here goes:

When I play mpeg or avi video streams, I only get the left half of the image. Resizing windows doesn 't matter. It seems to be a systemic problem, not an application problem, that is, unless you consider XFree86 an application. Xine, GTV MPEG, and every other mpeg player I 've tried exhibits the same problem.

I am running RedHat7.3 on an IBM Thinkpad A21p (ATI Mobility M3). It is stock redhat with security updates and a few tweaks. I haven 't even custom compiled the kernel.

I 've got a feeling that the solution is simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

While I 'm asking... has anyone been able to play .wmv files in Linux? My kids are running snapstream pvr on their windows pc and I 'd like to be able to watch some of the recorded shows.

Thanks in advance,
A. Trent Foley
