Back Hi:
I was surfing the web using Galeon. I downloaded a pdf file to read (I installed Acrobat a while back and it worked just fine). When I opened the pdf, it opened in Ghostview? So I went to the file associations for pdfs and saw that Acrobat was no longer there. I thought this is strange so I rebooted the system to see if it would restore the defaults, assuming the file system had misplaced or corrupted something.
When I rebooted, and logged into the Xserver, I got the KDE configuration wizard? I walked the wizard and it changed my desktop settings (I should have canceled the wizard).
Has anyone else had this happen? Might I have been compromised? I have a DLink 704 gateway firewall and I used lokkit to set the firewall up with fairly aggressive settings.
Now my hard drive light is constantly flickering, short, brief flickers.
The only other thing I have done today is is deinstall StarOffice 5.1a which required that I run the repair on OpenOffice 1.01. I did this before I saw the pdf problem so it may have something to do with it. I do not have any odd activity on the inet connection, however, my firewall does have a list of mac addresses that I cannot identify.
I am very concerned, does anyone have an ideas?
