Back Hello, I just went through hell w/ my domain registrar, verio.com. I was trying to change DNS servers to my own machines so that I can take care of DNS myself. My servers were all ready, configured, and had proper zone files. Verio 's tool for changing DNS names just wouldn 't work.
20 or so emails later, and a phone call, I find out that according to them, to be a SOA server for any domain that ends in .com/.net/.org/(some others?) you have to 'register ' your name server. THis means that there must be a A record for your name servers, and that A record needs to be 'registered ' through your registrar as a name server. This totally blew me out of the water, since I have never heard of this. To make matters worse, they wanted to use A records based off my domain, so now my name servers are dns1.j2solutions.net and dns2.j2solutions.net. This seems odd to me, as how can you use dns1.j2solutions.net to resolve addresses for the j2solutions.net domain, when you don 't have the address for dns1.j2solutions.net? Chicken, egg?
Am I taking one too many hits of the crack pipe, and just don 't understand it, or am I getting smoke blown up my ***? Can somebody clarify this for me? TIA!
