Back I installed Redhat Linux 7.3 on a server, and I had chosen to install GNOME and KDE as well. I had also chosen GNOME to be the default desktop.
When the install was complete and the server rebooted, I was brought to the shell prompt instead of a graphical login screen. After logging in as root, and entering "startx ", the following message was displayed:
---- Parse warning on line 102 of section Keyboard in file /etc/X11/XF86Config Ignoring obsolete keyword "LeftAlt ". Parse error on line 102 of section Keyboard in file /etc/X11/XF86Config "Meta " is not a valid keyword in this section. (EE) Problem parsing the config file (EE) Error from xf86HandleConfigFile()
Fatal server error: no screens found
When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send the full server output, not just the last messages. This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log ". Please report problem to xfree86@(protected)
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0 " after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. ----
I tried to use Xconfigurator. Once inside the program, I hit enter on the "OK " button to proceed. The program exited with the words "Segmentation fault ", and I was back at the shell prompt.
What is wrong and what can I do? Thanks in advance.
