Do you mean that you have not been able to retrieve mail from the server even though you are certain that you have mail waiting for you? Did you check to see if /var/spool/mail/username existed (where username is your username)?

Yes, sendmail will accept messages from outside for your users.

To uninstall, you should type the command that is in quotes:
rpm -e sendmail-8.11.6-15
Before you do that, are you certain that sendmail is not working? Send mail to one of your users, and see if it arrives in /var/spool/mail/username.
