Hmmm. I can agree with the philosophy of this, but balancing that is the need to get something working to learn with. I like the thought of doing things the "proper " way - practice makes permanent.
But how much am I biting off here? Is this something I can understand and make work properly in a day? Half a day? (Seriously, if you have an opinion it would help me decide what to tackle first.)
I 'm rebuilding the kernel now so I can get my parallel port working with my VMware Express (v2.04), and get my Ultracam working, and a few things like that.
I could just do "make install " and (I would expect 8-) ) the custom kernel would be in place for use. Is it much more to do it "the .rpm way "?
Thanks for your experience.
On Debian, there is a tool that allows building and installing a new kernel that fits into the upgrade scheme as easily as the "make install " approach, and I was hoping this was the equivalent for Red Hat.
