alsa-related issues [was: Problems With Xine]

Thanks for the response. I was about to do swap with
an extra notebook hard drive and do a test reinstall
without alsa. I will still do it to see if I still
have problems.

The alsa driver I got *is* version 0.9.3. Basically I
used a stock Shrike install, with alsa, xine (and its
dependencies), and xmms-plugin coming from
freshrpms.net.

Also I might have spoke too soon regarding playing
mpg 's. Since my original post, I had installed gxine
on my original install. I played an mpg file, paused,
went to the kitchen, came back, and resumed playback.
Video was still on pause, sound continued, and gxine
froze. Tried this a second time (without actually
going to the kitchen <g >), and then video continued,
but sound didn 't. Gxine still froze. Very weird.

I 'll try to do more "trying things out " with different
programs and combinations when I can. Thanks again.
