Only OpenSSH.

Can 't help you there, I only use Red Hat.

Maybe...

I use exactly the same command (sometimes without the z) and it works very
well; no changes necessary. I don 't see a lot of benefits in compression,
since my LAN is 100Mbps and has only five workstations. So I don 't use it.
But it shouldn 't cause you any problems, and the few times I 've used it
there have been no problems.
