Back I agree with my much more knowledgeable colleagues - non problemo.
I like ksysguard to watch what's going on. It shows that the total used memory stays fairly constant near the limit of the physical memory; but you can see the fraction actually being used (I forget which color). And if you launch/kill a job that uses a big chunk of memory, this bottom band of color changes appropriately while the "total" stays high and constant. Much more entertaining than doing any actual work ;=> The OS philosophy seems to be, perhaps the user is going to run that code again sometime, so why clear it out of memory until the space is actually really needed.
