Logitech mouse wheel

Logitech mouse wheel

I wrote this, but I don't know if the subject is alredy discussed.
This is my attempt to work with the wheel of those Logitech mouses wich are
offered OEM with most modern pc. They are PS/2 wheel mouse of series M-
S48a, those with black logo (without colors). I've readed on the web there is
no matter of use the wheel to scroll pages, lists and others.
Here is my solution.
The base is a RH7.3 installation, where the mouse is recognised as 2
generic buttons, whith the various updates from RH.
In /etc/X11/X86Config, in Pointer Section, the line
Protocol    "PS/2"
becames
Protocol    "IMPS/2"
accordingly in /etc/X11/X86Config-4, in Section "Input Device", Mouse0, the
line
Option      "Protocol" "PS/2"
becames
Option      "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
(so we use the mouse as IntelliMouse, note that 3 buttons emulation is
usable too)
That's all. Restart X (I do this at the login prompt) and voila' ... trie on
editors, on long lists of files in konqueror and so on, the wheel performs the
scroll (accordingly with mouse configuration in KDE).

Tell me if it works to you.

Bye.
