strange redhat linux ? please give me a hand! 2003-10-30 - By donshun Chen
Back Dear all, I am a new user for linux , I meet a question for redhat 7.3.(kernel: 2.4.18-3) That is , I recompiler my kernel using 2.4.18-3 or 2.4.22,but I meet a stange event that I can unmount root partition just from command line using telnet session afte rebooting redhat . There is no error meesage such as "/ device is busy" that apperas while I unmount it , but when I mount the root partition after unmounting it, the messae says: "mount: /dev/sda3 already mounted or / busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda3 is already mounted on / , and I try to edit a file in root partition by vi, the vi says: "file1" E212: Can't open file for writing Hit ENTER or type command to continue In addition to that I can not start the redhat "start-here" of nautilus while I log in to Gnome ,and when I log in to the Gnome, and telnet to the host again , I can finally see the message "/ device is busy" while I unmount root partition from xterm. after that , I can only use the command: "mount -o remount / "after I unmount root partition and want to edit a file in root partition. It seems that something has wrong with that ,didn't it? Is there any idea for that ? is bug or misconfigure on recompiling kernel? How can I let my redhat linux normal as other linux ?? Thanks for you help Regards, vanekan
