No. Updates are time sensitive (they need to be out ASAP) and the Internet is the best way to dispurse them when they're needed (right away).

The time for the updates can be long, it might be something that you'll want to set up a cron job for so your system can run up2date -u overnight. Run up2date -configure first, so you can exclude unnecessary packages etc.
