pppd dial-in problem

pppd dial-in problem

2003-01-04       - By Terry Unger

Hello, Anyone have an idea about this?

I have set up mgetty with pppd as a dial-in server but I'v played around
with it for about a week now but can't get this problem solved.

Here's what I have in my pppd options file:

# -detach
# asyncmap 0
# modem
# crtscts
# lock
# require-pap
# refuse-chap
# login
# proxyarp
# debug
# logfile crapy.log
# 192.168.0.1:192.168.0.5
# ipcp-accept-remote

And this is what the pppd log file shows:

# using channel 24
# Using interface ppp1
# Connect: ppp1 <--> /dev/ttyS4
# sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <auth pap> <magic 0x3889c8f9> <pcomp>
<accomp>]

# IPCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
# sent [LCP TermReq id=0x2 "No network protocols running"]
# Hangup (SIGHUP)
# Modem hangup
# Connection terminated.
# Connect time 0.6 minutes.
# Sent 175 bytes, received 0 bytes.

I have no idea why the client machine doesn't send back a response to the
IPCP ConfRequests. I have tryed every(I think) checkmark I can think of in Win98
that mentions compression but only when I switch everything off do I get
the best results as in the log above.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Terry
