Back I did. However, I'm not sure what the 'fix' was. I searched on my error message, and checked all the conditions, specificied, but they were all set correctly. Yesterday, when I started the machine, it worked.

I got v 4.0.3 running and startx is now working. There was a problem with older XFree86 version - what ! I dont know.
