Adaptec AHA-1480 SCSI PCMCIA card in RH7.1.

Adaptec AHA-1480 SCSI PCMCIA card in RH7.1.

I am trying to get this SCSI card to work in my RH7.1-based system
(because I have a SCSI CD-RW drive from HP, that I want to use).

When the system boots, I see some messages, which indicate that the card
gets recognized from the OS. Also, when I enter KDE Command Center,
the controller is present in the "Information" tab (PCI & PCMCIA
sections), as well as the "System" tab ("KDE System Control" section).

However, it is not displayed in the "SCSI" section of the "Information"
tab of the KDE Command Center and I cannot find any device (/dev/sda*,
/dev/scd*, etc.) in the "/dev" directory to mount to the "/mnt/cdrom"
directory. "/dev/cdrom" does not exist and "/dev/scd*", "/dev/sda*" give
back the message "unknown device" (when used in the "mount" command).

Has anybody used this hardware in RH7.1 before and, if yes, how? I do
not want to upgrade my RH7.1 partition to a newer version, because I
mainly use it in order to run some business software, certified for this
release (I have a separate RH8 partition on the same hard disk drive for
the rest of my work...).

TIA,
