Back Having issues getting my network card up.
HP EVO D530 desktop Network Adapter- Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet for HP lspci
RH8 reported Broadcom with unknown device. downloaded driver from broadcom's site: Broadcom BCM5700 Linux Driver Version 6.2.11-1 -install source rpm files. rpm -ivh bcm5700-6.2.11-1.src.rpm <http://bcm5700-6.2.11-1.src.rpm/> cd /usr/src/redhat -Rebuild rpm file rpmbuild -bb SPECS/bcm5700.spec Install newly built package This installs driver to: /lib/modules/2.4.18-24.8.0/kernel/drivers/net/bcm5700.o Load module: insmod bcm5700 Warning message: the module you are tying to load /lib/modules/2.4.18-24.8.0/kernel/drivers/net/bcm5700.o is compiled with a gcc version 2 compiler, while the kernel you are running is compiled with a gcc version 3 compiler. This is known to not work.
Tried force loading it: insmod bcm5700 -f same message, except with the additional error: will taint the kernel: forced load. See http://www.tux.org/lkml/#export-tainted for information about tainted modules Module bcm5700 loaded, with warning.
I rebuilt the rpm on redhat 8 rpm -qi shows gcc version 3.2
any ideas? -steve
