making this a Log Vol is useful as `expanding` ur hard disk space woud be easy .. say u have lot of mp3's / database files and finds ur existing disk space insufficient then u could add nother HDD (more disk space) with relative ease and w/o disturbing ur existing partitions
although u might not require immediate disk space :)
