something got corrupted and I don't know what...

I'm running on RH7.3 and when I started xwindows using gnome the
following happens...

1) the screen saver comes on at weird random times, even while I'm typing
2) windows that I open specifically the terminal on the menubar are
perminantly "stuck" if I unstick them sometimes I can move them
sometimes I can not.
3) start here menu that opens when I started gnome was unmoveable so I
chose "stick" and I can now move it

very bizzare...

I have since deleted all my .gnome files/directories in my home
directory, no difference....
