Flash Player Problem

Hello All,

I'm trying to get the Macromedia Flash Player installed.  I have already
read the documentation on the http://plugin.mozdev.org page and also the
readme file that was part of the tarball for this plugin.

The http://plugin.mozdev.org page said to extract the tarball and put
the libflashplayer.so and the flashplayer.xpt file in the
/usr/local/mozilla/plugins/ directory.  I did this.  I also tried
putting an additional copy of both these files in the
/usr/local/mozilla/components/ directory.  In either case, the plugin is
NOT recognized by the browser - i.e. isn't listed in my list of
plugins.  I'm running Mozilla 1.4 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686;
en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624) on Redhat 9 with kernel 2.4.20-19.9.

If it makes any difference, besides the libnullplugin.so (the default
plugin), I have the JRE plugin and the Adobe Acrobat plugin installed.
They both work fine and show in my about:plugins list.

The http://plugin.mozdev.org page also said that "Scripting Flash does
NOT work with gcc3 builds of Mozilla", but I'm not sure what that means
and my version of gcc is 3.2.2.

Anyone who can offer assistance here has my gratitude.  Also, pardon the
verbal diarrhea here, but I wanted to give as much detail as I could in
case anyone can help.

Thanks.

Colleen
