Hi List,
I was wondering about the multiple entries of vc and tty in /etc/securetty
list. Do multiple entries mean that if you have 11 entries for tty, that up
to 11 users can connect via telnet and or via ssh telnet at the same time?
And if only one tty entry exists in securetty, does that mean only one user
at a time can be logged in as a system user?
Also what does the vc entry mean?
Does tty mean a non secure telnet connection?
If everything is commented out does that mean that no one can gain access
via telnet or ssh telnet (putty)?
I was also wondering, if an admins normal process of logging on as a user
and then doing an su ? to gain root status on a server, would two (either
tty and or vc) entries need to be left un commented out, or is only one
needed for a person to log on as a user and then root?
Also if all of them are commented out, could this cause any problems with
running services, ports or running applications on a server? In other words
do any applications running on a server depend on the securetty file? Or
does secuetty only affect logins by a human user to a server?
