Codeweavers Produts (Beware the rant)

Codeweavers Produts (Beware the rant)

Hi,

Has anyone tried the "crossover office " and/or "crossover plugin "
products from Codeweavers on RHEL-WS or other platforms?

My experience has been that they don 't work. The plugin in processes
often result in a total system hang to the point where you must power
off the system. The office process will not install MS Office at all.

To make matters worse....the support staff of Codeweavers who has
responded to me is extremely unhelpful. I get one line responses that
don 't help to solve anything. I guess that only points out that you get
what you pay for.

The crossover office/plugin bundle goes for $70 and you get (if I
recall) less than a year of "support/updates ". I use the term "support "
lightly.

With RHEL you get a whole OS and bundled apps for maybe $99/year in
support and updates. But, hey, when I had a problem on the initial
install of RHEL 2.1 I submitted a Web trouble ticket and within 12hrs I
got a complete and accurate answer.

Some of the folks on this list may have seen postings on other Red Hat
lists that are questioning the pricing and such of Red Hat. After my
experience with Codeweavers I can tell you that if I could I 'd give Red
Hat a few years maintenance in advance....

Oh, but if anyone has had a positive experience with the Codeweaver 's
products please do let me know. I 'll give it one more try before I ask
for my money back....

Thanks,
Ed
