  | | | GRUB Load Failure | GRUB Load Failure 2003-11-19 - By Dean Maluski
Back While running RH Ver.3 Workstation twice it has failed to restart but at this point seems intermittent. I had a SCSI drive fail so yanked it out before installing Ver3 workstation. It happened to be ID-0. I installed Ver. 3 workstation then upgraded packages. Upon reboot I had a failure of GRUB when trying to access step 2 of loading. Since I hadn 't performed too many tweaks of my own yet I reloaded from CD 's. The next time I upgraded which included kernel as the last time it rebooted fine. Last night I tried a reboot and had the same trouble when GRUB tried to move on to step two. I don 't have exactly accurate details but will try my best to recreate a few more details. I am using SCSI RAID 1 for the /boot partition and RAID 5 for all the rest of partitions. The boot partitions resided on SCSI ID 1 & 2, not SCSI ID 0. When viewing my grub.conf file I noticed that it said to load from /dev/hd0,0 Which in fact in raidtab was /dev/md0 which equated to /dev/sdb & /dev/sdc. It also correctly called for root in grub.conf as /dev/md1. I rejumpered one drive back to scsi ID 0 and eliminated the RAID 1 for /boot partition and re-installed. Later today I 'll complete the install, upgrade and hope for the best!
