howto: where did /proc/sys/vm/pagecache functionality go?

Naive question for the day...

We have Dell PowerEdge 8450 's with 8 cpus and 16GB of memory running as
database servers (about 200GB of database files).

In RHAS 2.1, we used the settings in /proc/sys/vm/pagecache to stop the
filesystem cache from eating all available system memory (and
subsequently starving) our database server software. Changing the
settings in this file under RHEL3 AS don 't seem to make any difference
in how cache memory is limited.

Is there some equivalent to the RHAS 2.1 functionality in RHEL3? I
looked in the release notes and have googled around, but no hits.

Thanks,
Owen
