While I think using the open sources to re-package everything is a cool
idea, I believe the choices are getting to wide. On one side if you
want a stable, tested and supported versions you go with RHEL3, if you
want 'cool ' stuff you can go with Fedora, or choose another distro with
a lot of help and more customable kernels and drivers (gentoo, debian,
linux-from-scratch).
These distros Taolinux, Whitebox, Caosity might be fun to play with, but
I don 't expect companies to select them for production use. Companies
that want to add other third party applications on top (Oracle, ISS, BEA, SAP)
of these distros will have problems getting proper support.
To me these spin-off distros are proof-of-concepts, and should be
considered as such.
Then again... history has shown the emergence of diffrent distros originaly
based on Red Hat that have taken off pretty well, and have quite a
following... Mandrake, OpenNA
