MySQL-4 slowness Issues?

MySQL-4 slowness Issues?

Hi!

We 're in the processes of testing out a migration of one of our db servers
to RHEL AS 3. As part of the migration we 'd like to upgrade to MySQL 4
for the enhanced replication features. I understand that Red Hat isn 't
support MySQL-4 due to the "licensing problem " and I 'm ok with that and
I 'm ok with using MySQL 's binaries or rebuilt and tweaked rpm of my own.
Right now we 're not committed to using v4 but would like to if possible.

But, I do have a question: I 'm wondering if anyone has seen the
performance issues described in this bugzilla bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=112433
or if they 've seen any other performance related bugs and how y 'all
diagnosed them and got around them (assuming you did :). I 'm not a kernel
hacker, so the stuff talked about in the bug is starting to get near the
top end of my kernel debugging knowledge.

Thanks for any thoughts[1] folks can give on the matter.

[1] - Thoughts can be broadly defined as ideas, hints, tips, links, or
FM 's to R. My hope is to get a better idea about the what and the why of
the AS3 kernel 's interaction with MySQL and less to complain about
something not working right, 'cause nothing ever does anyway :)
