Back Hi -
I have been testing different versions of Red Hat: 9.0, Fedora CORE 1, and RHWS 3 Update 1, for use with hosting a web site.
I have a Compaq Presario S4020WM deskstop as a "test box " that has a PCI SCSI controller: I am also using the an IDE drive, too.
a.. Processor: 2.0GHz Athlon XP 2400+ on an MSI mobo
a.. System bus speed: 266MHz
a.. System memory: 512MB DDR SDRAM
a.. Hard drive: 40GB
a.. Optical drive: CD-RW (32x/10x/40x)
a.. External ports: six USB 2.0, serial, parallel, two PS/2
(SCSI controller proc output from a Fedora installtion on the same box)
Chip NCR53C810a, device id 0x1, revision id 0x23
On PCI bus 0, device 7, function 0, IRQ 11
Synchronous period factor 25, max commands per lun 32
This is a pretty conventional controller that RH 9.0 and Fedora was able to detect, and install the driver during the OS installation, and was able to support numerous disks and a tape drive on an old DEC BA356 shelf.
(proc output)

For whatever reason, RHWS 3 Update 1 could not detect this controller. I built several kernels using the i686 and Athlon config files and left SCSI support as a module, or forced the load, but I could not get RHWS to see the card.
How do you get SCSI support with Red Hat Work Station 3? This seems rather "odd " that the Enterprise version of the operating system couldn 't handle a fairly standard SCSI controller, where the other "free " versions could. I am looking through the docs to see what I might have done wrong, but I can 't see anything. Did RH drop support for this controller for the Enterprise version?
Thanks,
TK
