Changing the video settings from the console

Changing the video settings from the console

My monitor died and I replaced it with a new one which won't support the
resolution that the old one was on. Hence, the OS comes up and complains
about not being able to display anything.

How can I reset my video card settings from the command line?

The box says: Win98, WinNT or BETTER. That's why I installed Linux.
