Display resolution on a Toshiba Protege

Hi,

I am trying to change the display resolution to 1024x768 on my Toshiba
Protege laptop.
Doesn 't seem to be working.

After changing the setting, it asks me to restart the Xserver. I tried
both Ctrl-Alt-Bcksp and /sbin/service xfs restart,
Does not work.

Please help.
