  | | | RHEL 3 WS update 1(ia64) NFS client DOES NOT WORK!! | RHEL 3 WS update 1(ia64) NFS client DOES NOT WORK!! 2004-02-21 - By Brent M. Clements
Back I just wanted to get a feel and see if anyone else has experienced this
problem.
We were planning on upgrading all of our cluster nodes to RHEL 3
but we did a test run first as we normally do.
This is the scenaio.
1. Fresh RHEL 3 WS update 1 on an hp zx6000 ia64 machine.
2. No iptables rulesets are being used. Our interface is a tg3 interface.
3. Our NFS Server is an HP-UX NFS Server
4. The RHEL 3 WS nfs client can successfully mount an exported directory
to /tmp/test
5. When we do cd /tmp/test and then ls(or any type of access to the
mounted directory) it just hangs.
Well to test to see if we had compatability issues between RHEL 3 and
HP-UX we did the following.
1. Exported a test directory from an RH AW 2.1 ia64 machine
2. We again mounted the exported directory on the RHEL 3 system to
/tmp/test
3. When we tried doing any type of access on the mounted filesystem, it
again hangs.
Both NFS servers can be sucessfully mounted and accessed by other
OS 's/Distributions including RHEL 3 x86. Again this is the ia64 version
which seems to not be able to mount any OS 's/distributions NFS server.
We have made sure to remove any firewall rulesets or tcp wrapper setting s
from all of the machines concerned.
Now for the REALLY weird part. Just for grin 's, we installed another fresh
install of RHEL 3 on another itanium box in the same network. We did the
above tests and it still didn 't work.. Ok we moved on to the funny
part. We setup NFS on one of the RHEL 3 boxes and then mounted it from the
other RHEL 3 box. It successully mounted and we could SUCCESSFULLY access
the mounted directory. Weird isn 't it??
Our guess is that Redhat didn 't do any QA when it comes to NFS and
mounting other NFS servers. They may have only NFS mounted and access
other RHEL 3 ia64 boxes..but who knows....
Anyone have a solution or ideas about what is going on? We have already
submitted a "severe " bug report to Redhat. Our upgrade is being stopped by
this bug becuase our NFS server on the cluster is an hp-ux box.
